A flurry of guests and hosts fills Sundays and weekdays as families like the Tins Checks, the Martindales, and the McGintys welcome relatives and friends from Clinton Fulton Rock Falls Morrison and Stockton. Travel to Chicago Davenport and Freeport anchors a busy week of calls picnics and birthday anniversaries.
The Farm Bureau Picnic will be held Tuesday at Cook's Field four miles south of Lanark, Illinois. The program includes beef calf judging, dairy calf judging, a band, and a charity dinner with free cream, sugar, and coffee. The 4-H display features sewing club exhibi tions and livestock shows with over 200 head on display. The Farm Bureau nine will play the Ju Daviess boys in the main event to decide the better team.
Porter French a lifelong York township resident died Wednesday morning at the county home after declining health. He lived many years in Thomson on a farm once owned by John Cooper and was about 77. Born in Boston New York he moved to Carrell county as a child. He never married and lived simply, with siblings all deceased. Services were held at the county home and interment followed in the Jewer York cemetery.
Delinquent tax list published Monday in the Mount Carroll Daily Mirror Demo. Attendance invited for Friday at 2 o'clock. The notice confirms the tax list will not reappear elsewhere due to legal publication rules. Prof J T Beardsley and family visited the Schicks in Mount Carroll.

The Church of Christ proclaims revival meetings from September 12 to 28 led by Brother Richardson to edify members and convert nonbelievers. Members are urged to devote themselves to the event, with ministerial matters and Bible school notes discussed, and daily prayer requested for many to accept Christ.
The Sunday school party for the Junior Department will not be held Friday afternoon as planned. The fate will be announced next Sunday morning. Services next Sunday morning at 9 30 for preaching and 10 30 for Sunday school. Ladies' Aid honors Mrs. Lewis on 81st birthday with angel food cake baked by daughter in law Amy Lewis. Twenty ladies attended. meeting moved to Wednesday due to Melon Day. next gathering August 31 in the church basement.
Friday night dances listed with Dances Hamsen’s Barm Biaece on April 19 with music by A Sectey and His Pasadenax Riverview. Melun Day Masonic dance at Masonic hall with free Marlin dale’s Melon Pickers and Luther Geis Orchestra at Cochran’s hall. Mississippi Valley Farm continues regular Saturday evening dances. Felts’ Bara Dance every Wednesday evening.
Catholic special services were held Monday morning at 9 o clock. Regular services are planned for next Sunday morning at 9 30 am.
The Indians aid society is meeting this afternoon at the church base. Services next Sunday morning include Sunday school at 10 and preaching at 11.
The Ideal church will hold an Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social. Two preaching services will be held next Sunday evening at 7:45. Rev Rendall of Morrison is listed as the speaker.
Mayor Hy 2, Lewis urges Thomson residents to display flags on Melon Day. Businesses and homes should show flags along Main Street to create a festive scene for visitors. The plan aims to boost melon growers’ profits by impressing out-of-town guests. Local residents Arthur Coleson and family visited, Evelyn Stickell left for Freeport, and Charles Miller returned home after visiting Springfield.
Leaflets advertising Melon Day are being prepared at the Review offices with 4000 copies printed for wide distribution. The leaflet highlights Thomson sights and the big day events, with some copies still available for sending to friends. Local promoters plan to supply melon sellers to commission houses and distribute to supporters.
York Community High announces term start August 29 with classes and a burna event planned for August 22 from 9 to 11 am. Textbook notes urge buying used copies as prices rise and list courses and authors for 1932 33 in English algebra science history Latin civics shorthand typing and bookkeeping.
Melon Day plans move forward with committee appointments listed here. Admission reduced to 25 cents for before the day with free entry for all high school age and younger. Names may change as reports from heads arrive.
Messie Cecil George and Jim Turnbaugh ran a Morrison restaurant and served about 140 Mt Carroll Booster boys at noon on Wednesday. They plan for fair week and say their cafe can handle the crowds for meals.
NA Blue Bell Gamp BR No 438 held a Tuesday afternoon meeting with twenty six members. The social committee served ice cream and orange velvet cake. Joe Kauffman Sr visiting with his son and family departed Monday for Columbus Junction. Mr and Mrs Harry Ry ers Zion and others visiting Wr and Mrs Leonard Stage.
Lanark free movie promoter Petey Wales announces two upcoming Saturday screenings. The lineup includes Over the Plains a wild west feature and Mist of the Sea a comedy and novelty act. Aug 27 presents Accused as the main drama with a comedy and novelty program to follow.
Mr and Mrs Jake Sikkema and Pete of East Clinton and Mr and Mrs Ralph Sikkema and son Lawrence of Fullion were Tuesday evening tests at the Garrett Bethows home.
Melon Day preparations continue with slickers available at the Renew office. Volunteers note stickers on windshields must not obstruct view and funds await distribution. If all slickers are in use a week before Melon Day, it will greatly help promote the event and raise visibility.
The Melon Tossers beat Thomson 7 to 5 at Mill edgeville with Thomson’s Thom son and Brown starring on the mound and in the bat. Milledgeville plans two games, Melon Day events include boxing rounds, carnival rides, and a wedding possible, with Lanark and Mt Carroll games scheduled and a strong community push led by James J Sheridan and Fran A Stransky.
