Display of Boat Registration Decals Made Mandatory

Springfield Illinois August 1 William T Lodge state director of Conservation today announced that a recently signed amendment to the Boat Registration and a Act makes mandatory the display of the registration expiration decals which the department has been issuing on all new registrations and renewal registrations. During 1963 this will apply only to boats issued certificates with a 1966 expiration date. The policy in the past was that the display of the decals was optional with the boat owner. If a decal is lost destroyed or mutilated the owner must replace it by writing to the department with name address and boat number. The replacement fee is $1. There are over 30 000 boats originally registered in 1960 whose Certificates of Number have expired. If these boats operate without a valid Certificate and decal the owner faces a fine.
