Announcement from Savanna states Patricia Ann Georges daughter of Mr and Mrs Herman Georges of Savanna will wed Irvin K Hartman of Mt Carroll. The couple plan a wedding Sunday afternoon August 29 at the First Methodist Church in Savanna. Miss Georges is a Savanna high school graduate who studied last year at the University of Illinois Galesburg division. Hartman a Mt Carroll High School graduate and World War II veteran also attended the University of Illinois at Galesburg.
Mr and Mrs Clark Rhymer and family from Morrison visited Sunday with his mother Mrs Fanny Rhymer in a family gathering.
Carroll County prepares for the annual Achievement Day Friday at Chadwick High School with 4-H clubs. Morning judging by 30 leaders covers clothing, foods, room improvements, and party-a-month projects. An afternoon program at 1 30 features a 140 member clothing revue, 4-H chorus with 150 voices, and demonstrations. Ten girls will advance to the Aug 14-21 state fair in Springfield in categories including clothing and room improvement.
A Lanark two day Old Settlers Celebration August 11 and 12 promises full of fun with a parade radio segments a band concert amateur program top entertainment and a community dance. Savanna Williams sustaining burns from a kitchen fire is treated and released.
Mt Carroll deputy investigates after Mr and Mrs Xavier Szakowski of Chicago escape serious injury when their car overturned on a sharp curve on highway 52 one mile west of Mt Carroll. Passing motorists aided them and transported to a local Mt Carroll physician. Betty Gifford 15 diagnosed with virus meningitis not polio. diagnosis confirmed after hospital admission last week and specialist consultation.
Funeral services were held for Daniel Bowders 85 and Carroll Vincent Kehoe 38 in Milledgeville and Savanna. Bowders born 1863 in Middleburg Pa married Ellen Crist. Kehoe signal maintainer for Burlington railroad killed near Fountain City Wis. Surviving relatives and funeral details listed for each. Eight teams will compete in an invited softball tournament in Mt Carroll with games starting at 7 p m on Monday August 9 and running through Friday with a Friday night championship. Carroll County Home Bureau plans its second annual meeting at 1 30 p m on Tuesday in the First Baptist church Mt Carroll. Miss Myra Robinson of Kansas IL president of the Illinois Home Bureau federation will speak along with Miss Clotilde Cokinos visiting Athens Greece. Officers will be elected. There are 21 units and 425 members in Carroll county.
R Rahn headed Carroll County DHIA in July with 34.6 pounds of butterfat and 1079 pounds of milk per cow. The best herd was the Carroll and French group of 26 registered Holsteins with 33.9 pounds fat and 414 pounds milk. five cows were dry. Five highest producing cows included Stransdale No. 1 and Robert Schubert, with fat and milk totals. Association average was 29.4 pounds fat. Stransdale No. 2 yielded 2190 pounds milk with 771 pounds fat from 71 dry cows across 24 herds. Six unprofitable cows were sold.
Savanna Leo Halfman a 38 year old man was treated at Savanna City hospital for third degree burns on his right leg after the gas tank of his 1981 model A Ford exploded while he moved the car at 1 am Sunday. He had returned home seven miles south of Savanna when the engine backfired igniting the fuel. The car was destroyed and halfman was to remain in hospital for the week.
Mt Carroll reports its third polio case of the year as 8 year old Donald Dickinson Jr son of Mr and Mrs Donald Dickinson is admitted to St Francis hospital Freeport diagnosed poliomyelitis.

The York Busy Beaver 4 H club held its business meeting Wednesday August 1 at 2:00 at Mrs McGintys. Phyl Miller and Julia Fedderson gave talks while Phyllis Miller and Carol Miller served refreshments. Phyllis Miller reporter.

The state highways division announced Johnson Road Builders of Joliet as low bidder for 49 014 dollars on 28 38 miles of bituminous surface treatment on routes 74 77 and 202 in Carroll Whiteside Jo Daviess and Ogle counties. Gund Graham Co Freeport bid 242 734 dollars to pave patches on routes 72 73 and 26. The awards cover multiple county road improvements. Mr and Mrs John Boelkens of Elgin visited relatives Sunday.

Daily take includes ducks geese coot rails gallinules and many species from sunrise to a hour before sunset, with dove and pigeon limits similar. Opening day limits allow hunting before sunrise. dove season runs Sept 30 to Sept 30 and duck season from Sept 7 to Nov 27.
Rural Youth Council members met August 2 to plan the next session. The rural meeting is now postponed to August 16 at 1 o clock in the Purm Bureau Hall Sit Careell. The outcome will decide if Carroll County enters the State Tournament of Rural Youth Baseball Teams after a string of wins.
