Town residents note warmer days and sun after a long winter. Potter Road repairs progress with sand laid and funds raised by locals. Fishing Sunday was good despite scarce anglers. The community thanks donors and helpers. several boats and vendors, including John Krahn and Gus Roggendorf, are featured. Fred Hook rents the high school farm donated by Wilhelm Smaltz for district use.
Card of thanks from Mrs Dollie Atherton for prayers and Easter cards while at Rochester. Includes an ad for 428x State Inspected Strawberry Plants at 1 75 per hundred and Red Pine trees 2 3 ft at 2 00 each by Walter Swanson Mor. Also thanks from William Cronister for cards flowers and hospital visits with special mention of Rev Allen and Rev Goldberg.
Miss Joyce Marie Gast and Larry R. Erling wed at First Congregational DeWitt with Rev. Lester E. Olsen officiating. Attendants included Patsy Gast as maid of honor and Beverly Davenport as bridesmatron. The couple will reside near Long Grove where Erling farms and Mrs. Erling works as an x ray technician.
The Legion Auxiliary met April 21 with 12 members present. Karen Sue Eissens was chosen for Girls State, and the unit voted to send $5 to CARE. A play, Scattered Showers, was presented, and Mrs. Una Butts spoke on Poppy Day.
York Community lists William Kendall as pastor with services at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and Herbert St. Ores leads classes. Daniel Goldberg preaches at 10:00 a.m. The Rock River Association Men's Rally is Friday April 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Morrison Baptist Church. B Y F social bowls in Clinton after a 6:30 p.m. church meet.
Eugene Murray escaped serious injury after a tractor overturned Tuesday evening. A wheel sank in soft ground causing a tip over. Murray leapt free to avoid being pinned and injured his leg in the process. He was treated and released from Clinton hospital.
Henry Bielema bought the Badtke residence on West Main in Clinton after an auction last Saturday. Minnie Badtke moved Wednesday to 647 2nd Ave South. Merle Bielema and children plan to occupy the former Badike house soon. Read of nearby visits and moves involving Gholsons, Gummersheimers, McCues, and local families amid weekend gatherings.

Methodist Lowell D Allen pastor schedules morning services at Thomson and Argo Fay with Sunday School M Y F meetings and a May 15 Children's Day. Hickory Grove and Fulton services listed with times. a wedding in Fulton drew Thomson attendees including Kustes family and Mrs Kathryn Cooper.
Thomson fire department answered a grass fire call last Friday at the Baptist parsonage on Route 171. Mr and Mrs Eugene Halfman and family were guests the previous Thursday at Mr and Mrs Lawrence Law Jr and family in Savanna.
The Argo All Stars 4 H club schedules a bake sale for Saturday April 30 at 1 30 PM at Ned Spencer grocery store. A Little League organizing meeting for 1960 is set for Friday April 26 at 8 PM at the Legion Hall inviting all interested adults.

The Thomson Lions Club met at Argona Methodist Church for its monthly dinner with about 22 attendees. Pete Kleinpaste of Savanna, executive director of Ridge District of the Boy Scouts of America, spoke on Explorer Scouts. The club voted to donate 50 to repairing Potters Lake access road. Melon Day concessions were secured for September 3–5 with plans for a band concert and a ball tournament.
A seventh and eighth grade group from Fairhaven School toured Springfield on a Thursday field trip April 21. Two buses carried students who visited Lincoln's Tomb Capitol Lincoln Home and the Centennial Building museum before returning home via Kewanee.
Mrs. R. C. Bush, Carroll County PTA, and Mrs. Alfred Dykstra, Thomson PTA, attended the state convention of the P T A in Peoria Illinois last Thursday through Saturday. They were joined by seven Savanna and Hanover women, took in all conferences and the Saturday banquet, and returned to Thomson late Saturday night.
The Thomson Woman's Club will hold its annual May Banquet on Wednesday May 11 at 7 p.m. in the Gold Room Lafayette Hotel Clinton Iowa. Dinner is $1.75 per plate with reservations to Mrs Hoff Sloan or Switzer by May 7. Rose's Gift Shop will present the program.
The Sick Mrs Virgil Wilt returned home Sunday afternoon from Mercy hospital Clinton after two weeks as a medical patient. William Cronister went home Sunday after a week as a surgical patient at St. Francis Hospital Freeport. Lawrence Bruckner son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Bruckner is a medical patient at Jane Lamb Hospital Clinton admitted last Thursday. Mrs Dolly Atherton returned home from the Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota last Thursday where she had been a patient since March 18. Mrs Leila Mitchell is staying with her at her home. Dwight Atherton went through the Mayo Clinic at Rochester Minnesota last week. Mary Baker is at her home this week with the flu. John French of Clinton was an observation patient last week from Wednesday to Friday in Mercy Hospital. Mrs Glen Williams is a surgical patient in Jane Lamb Hospital Clinton.
Weekend visits and cottage stays around Riverview include Melvin and Maud Brocious, Everett Schreiner, Maud Sager, Frank Graves, Willie Leopold, William Doherty, Phillip Mallory, Henry Picklum, Bloomgren, and Oak OLeary families. August Leopold’s death in Savanna is noted with Lutheran funeral service and Elmwood cemetery burial.
Jan Bristol of the 7th grade notes a beautiful memorial featuring four statues representing infantry cavalry navy and artillery groups. The writer hopes others who have not seen it will someday view the sculpture.
Mary Ann Hoff of Thomson High School earned a superior rating on tenor saxophone at the state music contest in Kankakee held Friday and Saturday. Evelyn Wilt and Gayle Durward won excellent ratings in bass solo and bari tone respectively, with the girls chorus also receiving an excellent rating. Michael Aiello directed the group, accompanied by Mrs. Donald Sippel, as they stayed overnight for the event.
Larry Workman a 7th grade student at Thomson Grade School won first place in Class B for the 7th and 7th Grade Art Contest sponsored by the Illinois Federation of Women's Clubs. The announcement came at the 13th District Convention held at the Savanna Methodist church. His winning piece, with other first place entries, will go to Chicago for state judging on May 10 to 12.
Mr and Mrs Harold Witt with Mrs Harold Witt and Mrs W G Reiff traveled from Clinton Iowa to Rockford to attend the North Central regional Sweet Adelines meeting. About 500 singers from 14 chapters competed at the Rockford Theater and the Clinton Chapter quartet Lyrica won second place.
Connie and Bonnie Dietrick celebrated their 12th birthday Sunday afternoon at the grandparents home of Mr. and Mrs. William Hamm. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dietrick and family, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Cohn and children, Mrs. Betty Detra and children, Francis Hamm of Prophetstown, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hamm and children, plus Mrs. Cora McGinnis and children. Ice cream and cake were served.
Sherrie Lewis Marnes Hill and Jean Brown presented the Scattered Showers play at the Chestnut Park PTA meeting held Tuesday evening at Thomson high in Savanna. Mrs Milton Larson directed the production.
