Last Mississippi Incursion Steamer Is Being Dismantled
The Capitol steamboat of the Shekfus Line, once a staple on the Mississippi above St. Louis, is being dismantled in St. Louis this summer. The ship served for fifty years under different names before cabins were removed for excursion use. Only a sister vessel will continue daily river trips, as most upper river boats give way to diesel powered towboats and modern screw driven craft.
