Babson analyzes postwar employment lines for service members, ranking industries by prewar return on investment. He groups 72 sectors into four profit-based categories, from low to good profits, naming examples such as railroad equipment, textiles, chemicals, radios, and automobiles, with notes on inflation and career paths.
The War Food Administration awarded the Achievement A to the workers and management of the Fuhremann Canning Co in Lanark Illinois. E O Pollock Midwest Regional Director of Food Distribution noted similar A awards went to Roberts and Oaks Inc Chicago Drum Mond Packing Co Eau Claire and Fox Valley Canning Co Hortonville. The award honors excellent production and cooperation in the war effort meeting stringent Army Navy B standards.
A public hearing will be held on April 24 in Farm Bureau Hall in Mt Carroll to decide if Carroll County soil conservation district should expand. A 586 landowner petition filed March 14 seeks adding land from Cherry Grove Shannon Rock Creek Lima Elk Horn Grove Aby Sox Fort Haver York and Savanna townships and parts of Freedom Mt Carroll Salem and Washington townships currently outside the district.
The War Food Administration presents the Achievement A Award to food processors with outstanding production records. Selection considers quantity and quality of output given available facilities. Additional stars indicate continued maintenance of coordination in subsequent years.
The Fuhremann Canning Co of Lanark Illinois earned the Achievement Award for food production and cooperation with the government food program in 1943. A ceremony at Lanark High School on May 18 will present an Award flag and employee pins bearing the slogan Food Fights for Freedom.

A sequence of warranty deed transfers is recorded involving numerous individuals and couples across Savanna, Mt. Carroll, Woodstock, and neighboring towns. Transfers reference sections, townships, ranges, and additions with property plots and lots such as Lot 4, Block 8 in East Savanna and Lot 17, Block 5 in Salem, among others.
Write-in votes filled most county offices on the Democratic ticket after official returns show no filed candidates. Nominees include circuit clerk C. G. Hanna, state's attorney W. G. Kent, and coroner A. A. Calkins, with 15 of 20 precincts electing Democratic precinct committeemen by write-ins.

Edwin H. Schreiner 74 died April 13 near Mt. Carroll. Funeral April 15 at Mt. Carroll Christian Funeral Home with burial at Oak Hill cemetery. Survived by brother Frederick. John A. Truesdale 80 of Savannah died April 11 in Asbury Park New Jersey while visiting daughter Mae Hunter. Burial in Savannah cemetery. Survived by two sons, a daughter, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Miss Carolyn L. Gregory, Savanna native and ordnance depot employee, wed Pvt. John D. Lavender of Camp Forrest in a 9 30 a m high mass at St John s church Savanna. Sgt James W Gallagher of Camp Ellis and Miss Jane Carpenter of Savanna married at St John s rectory with Rev E A O Brien officiating.
Lucinda Madsen 87 died at midnight Friday in the Savanna home of her son Albert after a long illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Law funeral home officiated by Rev. Arthur Monknan. Born Lucinda Ellen King May 1, 1856 near Monroe Wisconsin, she married Peter Madsen December 25, 1876 and lived in Savanna since then. Surviving are sons Thomas Albert and Willis all of Savanna, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Mrs George Weidman 72 native of Carroll county died Saturday morning at her Clinton home after a stroke on April 8 Elizabeth Brown born April 7 1872 near Savanna daughter of Frank and Amelia Brown married George Weidman March 9 1890 moved to Clinton twenty years ago Surviving are her husband and two children Mrs Zale Fulrath Beloit Wisconsin and Miss Della Weidman at home
At a Carroll county war council meeting in Mt Carroll Fred Rhodes Jr former director of the council was given a military wrist watch and cash in appreciation of more than two years leadership. Rhodes has resigned hoping to join the armed forces soon and no successor is named yet though an appointment is anticipated.

Carroll C T Wilhelm Shannon named vice chairman and C H Rahn Savanna secretary treasurer Atty Robert L Morris chosen county chairman for the Fifth War Loan drive this summer
Crom, serving his second term as Wysox township supervisor, was elected chairman of the Carroll county board of supervisors at the annual reorganizational session. He was chosen by acclamation to succeed Charles Kingery and outlined committee assignments and plans to attend the Springfield convention.
Mrs Samuel J Campbell of Mt Carroll Illinois, treasurer general of the Daughters of the American Revolution, is among three candidates for president general at the 53rd continental congress in New York. She was guest of honor at a Sunday night Illinois delegates dinner at the Commodore hotel.
Savanna coach W. F. Massey was struck by a car Friday night while crossing in front of the school, suffering shoulder and knee injuries and multiple lacerations. He was taken to the Savanna Hospital. Survived by his son Albert of Lanark, another son Frank of Panama City, six grandsons, three great grandsons, and one great granddaughter. wife predeceased him nine years ago.
Ida Rausch 71 died Monday evening at her home six miles north of Mt Carroll. Funeral services will be Thursday at the Christian funeral home with burial in Arnold's Grove cemetery. Born April 24, 1872 near Mt Carroll she was the widow of George Rausch. Survived by four daughters two sons two sisters and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Harry Bloyer, 65, died at 9 a m Sunday at his Lanark home where he lived with his sister Mrs Lela Meyers who died last week. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Frank funeral home with Rev T R Moritz officiating. Burial was in Lanark cemetery. Born in Hagerstown Maryland he moved to Lanark in youth and worked in painting and decorating until ill health three years ago. Survived by a sister Mrs Lela Meyers and a brother Otho Bloyer both of Lanark.
Aaron Warfel, 86, died at 1 30 p m Sunday at his Lanark home where he lived alone for years. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 30 p m at Frank funeral home with Rev Richard Wedel officiating. Burial followed in Lanark cemetery. Born January 7 1858 in Lancaster County Penn he later moved to Illinois with his parents and for years served as a private manager.
Obituaries describe Jay William Uphoff son of Mr and Mrs William Uphoff who died at four a m in Lincoln Illinois born October 2 1942 in Savanna and services scheduled at Law Funeral Home in Savanna with Reverend Gerhard. Also N C Mershon 61 of Mt Carroll died in Cincinnati Ohio from a paralytic stroke and funeral rites were held in Mt Carroll with burial at Frank Funeral Chapel. Survivors listed include family members in Illinois and Minnesota.
