Clyde Leitz a Milledgeville trucker was fined 5 dollars and 9 75 in costs after pleading guilty to overloading a truck. The vehicle weighed 15 580 pounds just under the 15 100 limit on gravel roads. Camp Carroll near Mt. Carroll since 1935 will be moved this spring with no exact date given. The Tri County Schoolmasters club held its year end meeting in Lena Monday evening with Mr L J Gnagey elected president for the coming year. Miss Grace Holmes of Lena spoke on her China missionary experiences and displayed items she collected abroad.
Miss Evelyn B Elmlinger of Freeport and Charles Pease of Mt Carroll were married December 7 1940 in Mt Pleasant Iowa. The bride, a Cameron Wisconsin graduate, attended state teachers college in Wisconsin. Pease son of Mr and Mrs Charles Pease Sr is a Mt Carroll High School graduate and works at Savanna Ordnance depot. They will reside in Mt Carroll.
Boy Scout rallies across seven districts of the U S Grant Council will run in late April. The Carroll district rally is set for April 16 at Mt Carroll High School from 7 30 p m indoors for parent, friend, and child attendance. Events include bugling fire by friction flint and steel equipment and boat races signaling and knot tying relay with scout demonstrations.
Carroll counties selective service board sent questionnaires to 89 registrants numbered 521 to 610. After reviews and physicals, the board expects enough class 1A men to meet the month’s 43 quota with induction set for April 17 in Chicago.
George W. Michael, 73, a former Fair Haven resident, died at 6:30 PM Monday in St. Francis Hospital Freeport. Funeral services are set for Thursday afternoon at Offenheiser Funeral Home Pearl City. Born July 5 1867 in Fair Haven township, he married Orpha Schreiner. They farmed north of Pearl City. Surviving: widow, daughter Marcella Keep of Stockton, five brothers Howard Allen Michael of Freeport Elwood Michael of Lena Orin Michael of Massbach Benjamin Michael of Pearl City, step-son Clyde of Rockford, and five grandchildren.
A special program for northern Illinois doctors will be held in Freeport on Wednesday April 28 starting with a luncheon at 1230. The event is one of ten statewide meetings sponsored by the Illinois State Medical Society to present the newest information in medicine.
R W Ross named conductor for the third annual Carroll County music festival in Mt. Carroll on May 16. Ross leads the Illinois Wesleyan University music program and directs the concert band and symphonic ensemble. An estimated 200 to 300 musicians from six county high schools plus a 500 strong chorus will perform, with Frank Jordan of Illinois Wesleyan as guest chorus conductor.
In Carroll County township elections last week three new assessors won seats. New officials are Lloyd Kloepping in Freedom, Harry Wildey in Mt. Carroll, and Benjamin Duffey in Elk Horn Grove. Incumbents re-elected include Edward Law, Ed Adams, M. E. Baum, G. W. Wolfensebrger, Amsey Resh, Charles Diel Sr, Chester Cramer, Sharpe Carroll, W. G. Strauch, Ernest Musser, with E. B. Payne notably favored by voters despite not running.
A birthday dinner was hosted Sunday at the Senneff home near Milledgeville in honor of Mr. Senneff. Attending were ASA and Alice Senneff’s families, Bob Senneff of Freeport, and relatives from Milledgeville, Ideal, Wacker, Fulton, and Thomon.

Mrs G F Bickelhaupt spent a day with her sister Mrs Sam Graves. Loomer Downing traveled to Freeport to visit his 94 year old mother and other relatives.
Allen Slifer son of Mr and Mrs Roy Slifer of Carroll has been chosen honor man of his company of 119 at the Great Lakes naval training station He will complete training April 12 A Mt Carroll high school graduate Slifer enlisted January 7 and his honor was earned for proficiency in drills rowing signaling marksmanship seamanship swimming athletics naval life lectures and general neatness and obedience

Carroll county unemployed skilled workers are urged to register with the state employment office to enroll in national defense worker programs. A representative will accept applications at the Mt. Carroll courthouse every Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., no Sterling trip needed.
Circuit Judge Harry E. Wheat of Freeport announced Arthur H. Patrick as court reporter starting July 1, succeeding John O. Graham who resigned to become secretary to Congressman W. G. Stratton. Patrick, a Freeport high school faculty member since 1934, is joined by other court actions including a divorce granted to Irene Smith from Frank J. Smith for cruelty and two trial dates set for April. Real estate transfers list several warranty and quitclaim deeds involving properties in Woodland Freedom Savanna and Rock Creek.
A temporary committee outlines boundaries for a proposed Carroll County soil conservation district. Most of Mt Carroll Freedom and Woodland townships would join, with parts of Salem and Washington townships. A public hearing and a district referendum are required, with 51 percent owner approval. No taxes or bonds would be levied, and services are offered at no cost to farmers except materials and labor for improvements.

Mrs. Elsie Butler district supervisor led a Mt. Carroll meeting with county committee members and eight leaders to plan 4-H activities for the year. Ten clubs expected, six clothing and four foods, including a Chadwick area foods club led by Miss Beth Anderson. eight clubs operated last year.
Arthur C. Lueder the state auditor announced a payment of 5 percent amounting to 2250.55 on waived deposits of Exchange State Bank Lanark Illinois. Depositors waived 35 percent of their claims to aid reopening after the banking moratorium. This is the third repayment and brings total to 15 percent of the original waiver of 45010.77.
A second plan for congressional district reapportionment in Illinois would move Winnebago county from the 12th district to join Carroll to form the 15th district. The proposal also relocates Whiteside county from the 13th to the 19th district grouping Rock Island and others south.
Miss Melva Holmquist of Argo Fa suffered a broken right leg and numerous cuts when a motorcycle she rode with Alvin Porter collided with an automobile at Route 80 Morrison road. Both were taken to Jane Lamb hospital in Clinton. Porter's injuries were minor and he was released. The auto driver was Lester O'Donnell of Hillsdale.
Mrs Margaret Ferguson 79 wife of Chauncey Ferguson a Savanna merchant died at home in Savanna Saturday night. Born March 31 1862 in Sterling Iowa she married Mr Ferguson Sept 24 1884 and they lived in Savanna 52 years. Funeral at Savanna Methodist Church Monday with burial in Savanna cemetery.
