La Fayette delegates spark Monroe convention dispute
The Monroe convention wrestled with La Fayette County credentials. Wescott ruled two La Fayette senatorial seats valid and denied irregular Western District credentials. The majority backed Blackstone Orton, keeping Hazelton’s path. A split Dane County bloc bolted, while Orton, Baxter and Parke urged unity as the convention closed with Hazelton’s nomination.
