Legion Holds Annual Election Names New Commander
Winthrop Post No. 146 of the American Legion elected Frederick P. Preble as Commander for the next year in a large meeting. Preble, born in 1897 in East Boston, has served in multiple military units and fought in France during World War I. He has lived in Winthrop since 1920 and is married with two children residing at 56 Shirley Street.

Large attendance at nine day novena opens in church
The nine day novena to St. Teresa of the Little Flower began last Sunday at the Church of St. John the Evangelist drawing record crowds. Two evening services were held at 6 45 and 7 45 with a 6 00 morning mass, under Rev. John T. O'Brien. A saint relic rests in a shrine of roses near the altar.
