Winthrop Trust Company Report to Banks 1923

The Winthrop Trust Company of Winthrop Massachusetts filed its condition report to the Commissioner of Banks as of September 14 1923 showing total assets of 1 015 647 56 and average reserves for the last thirty days of 3.31 percent in currency and specie 6.56 percent in deposits in reserve banks and 6.00 percent in U S and Massachusetts bonds. Directors and officers including Harry W Aiken treasurer and Almon E Whittemore president attested to the statement before Justice of the Peace Preston B Churchill.

Elks appoint Strachan as District Deputy in southeast district

Frederick T. Strachan of Winthrop Elks is named by Grand Exalted Ruler G. MacFarland to serve as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the Elks southeast district covering about 17 lodges including Boston Winthrop New Bedford Taunton Arlington Revere. Eight captains will aid the Drive Committee to raise 5598. Strachan has long service in the order since 1907 and remains life member of Winthrop Lodge.

Colored All Stars Play First Local Showdown In Cold Familiar Crowd

A crowd braved a foggy afternoon to watch the Colored All Stars in a rare local game. Bradley filled in for the absent Burke as Osborne powered two three base hits and Melanson pitched well while Hope robbed him of homers.

Winthrop Lodge honors late Wm Barter and McCue support

The late Wm Barter, first Exalted Ruler of Winthrop Lodge and Grand Esquire to Charles F. J. McCue of Cambridge, returns as Esquire in Winthrop Lodge. His unanimous elevation to District Deputy Grand Exalted Rule received broad lodge and external backing, with Winthrop Kilts among the first to back him. Barter, a Winthrop resident for 30 years, began a musical career 27 years ago and was son of the late Colonel Strachan of the Ninth Regiment.
