The statement shows U S Bonds totaling 250 152 51 under assets with a capital of 100 000 00 and plus surplus and undivided earnings as 111 956 18. Liabilities list deposits reserved for taxes and interest at 36 700 01 and other items totaling 2 619 361 00.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Duston of 275 Main Street marked 90 years of marriage with a quiet home celebration attended by intimate friends and family. A visit from John W. Scott and his wife from Somerville, a Joseph Hooker Woman's Relief Corps delegation, and many congratulatory gifts and telegrams followed in three joyful days. Their two sons in the West sent gifts as well.
Secretary Charles W. Dorr has issued notices for a meeting at 8 pm next Monday at the Elks Clubhouse to elect officers for the coming season plan the schedule and consider other business. New bowling clubs may apply to Dorr at 41 Sargent.

A Winthrop note lists residents known to be in Florida during a recent disaster. Names include Louis G. H. Tucker and family in St. Petersburg, Owen W. Flannery in St. Petersburg, Smith Mowry in Bonita Springs, Gibbons in Miami, Linehan and son in Hollywood, Eddie Dunn in West Palm Beach, and multiple fugitives in Miami and surrounding towns. Messages confirmed some safely via telegrams and wires.
Police found Mrs Katharine Bryson and her son Joseph Bryson dead at a cottage in Point Shirley after a gas heater leaked carbon monoxide. The bodies showed postmortem signs and the medical examiner ruled probable carbon monoxide poisoning. The home belonged to Mrs Stevens, with relatives contacting police.
Mr John A Gilgan and Mrs Gilgan of 69 Bellevue Ave were injured when their car was driven off the road by a Canadian rum runner on September 9 near Fort Kent Maine. They survived a 42 foot fall from a dirt bridge before being rescued.
Winthrop Chapter, authorized by National Headquarters, American Red Cross, appeals for contributions to aid Florida hurricane victims. Donations from the chapter and public are welcomed and will be forwarded to Mr. Preston B. Churchill, Treasurer, Winthrop Savings Bank.
A special meeting will be held Friday evening Sept 24 at 8 at Public Library Hall. Citizens both members and nonmembers are invited to attend and offer suggestions for next years Historical Pageant. Winthrop Pageant Association officers are Harry B. Wright president, Harry C. Whorf director, Leslie E. Griffin treasurer, Elizabeth F. Jones secretary.
