Donation to hospital thanked by Winthrop American Legion

At the Winthrop Post American Legion meeting a letter from Preston B. Churchill on behalf of the Winthrop Community thanked the Post for a 100 dollar donation to the hospital. The money came from the Carnival treasure chest left unopened at the field and displayed after the event.

Students Create Safety Signs For Town Schools

Safety signs made by pupils in the high school manual training program are displayed in front of each town school building. The 13 signs were painted by students under instructor Eber I. Wells and finished last June.

Allow Bidders Until Sept. 25 For Town Hall Furniture

The Town Hall Committee postponed bid opening for furniture to Tuesday evening September 25 to give contractors more time to estimate costs and prepare bids after a misunderstanding of specifications. Bids will be opened then in the Town Hall Se lectmen's room.

Tuesday Evening Bridge Club Meets at Esther Petersons Home

The Tuesday Evening Bridge Club gathered at Miss Esther Petersonson Bellevue avenue on September 4. Souvenirs awarded to Miss Norma Ansell and Agatha Bennett. Decorations featured pink and white roses at the dining table. The engagement of the hostess to Samuel W. Brooks of Everett announced. Among attendees were Margery Howland Beulah Barkley Anita Bates Dorothy Dorr Irene Peterson and Mrs Earl Peterson Olive Pero.

Legion Holds Nominations for Winthrop Post 146 Officers

Nominations for officers of Winthrop Post No. 146 American Legion were conducted at the Monday meeting at Hermon Street headquarters. The annual election is set for the next meeting on Monday evening September 24, with results announced on page 4.

Winthrop Schools Emphasize Fall Traffic Safety

Winthrop public schools focus on safety this fall with twelve traffic safety gas h built in the Senior High School manual training department and police approval for danger points near school buildings. Traffic officers with belts and badges will monitor all elementary schools during dismissal, and safety clubs will form townwide with badgeed members bearing the town seal and "I Will Bear careful." drivers are urged to reduce speed near schools to protect children.

Hoover Rally to Boost Hoover Vote in Winthrop

The Hoover for President Club of Winthrop plans a Friday rally at 8:00 PM at the Winthrop Theatre to energize primaries on September 18 and to urge registration and voting in the November election for Hoover. Mrs. Walter T. White serves as president and the group aims to engage all Republican candidates.

Winthrop Board of Trade to Meet September 25

The September meeting of the Winthrop Board of Trade will be held Tuesday evening September 25 in the Winthrop Machine Gun Veterans Association building on Jefferson street. Members and all merchants are invited to attend and bring a prospective member. Topics include a Trade in Winthrop advertising campaign, the USMC Band appearance on October 14, and all night parking in Winthrop.
