Roberts Chosen To Head Legion In Local Nomination

At a Monday night meeting the local Legion Post nominated officers for 1930 1931 with Stanley A. Roberts named Commander unopposed. Roberts has served since the post’s 1919 inception, held multiple offices, chaired the Ingleside Park carnival, and acted as Finance Officer. Two contested posts remain for Junior Vice Commander Fritz Westlin opposed by Arthur Birkmaier and five other positions to be filled.

Historic Massachusetts film to be shown in Winthrop

A talking film titled Three Centuries of Massachusetts will be shown at 8 p.m. Sept 26 in Odd Fellows Hall Winthrop under Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association. Harvard’s L and H Assan production features Professor Hart narrating with authentic Colonial scenes and descendants in period roles.

A Ford sedan with a young man and woman stopped by a parked car Saturday night on Pleasant street. The man attempted to enter the vehicle before the owner appeared and fled, leaving no plate captured. Police urge residents to lock cars and report any suspicious plates.

Gasoline station burglary reported at Shell on Shirley and Revere

The Shell station at Shirley and Revere streets was entered last Thursday night through a rear window. The cash register was smashed and found in the rear field. State police photographed prints from the scene. Also noted is the church school opening reception at St. John’s Episcopal Parish House on September 12 with separate sessions for young and older children plus five reels of moving pictures.

Town approves land sale to government for ten thousand

The Town Meeting last March set ten thousand dollars as the fair value for a parcel of land to be sold to the federal government. The Treasury Department letter accepts the offer, authorizing acquisition of a federal building site at Winthrop Massachusetts and attaches conditions and vendor survey specifications.
