Winthrop Rotary Opens City Movie Project
A film project titled See Yourself in the Movies will document Winthrop life in early fall 1941. Rotary sponsor Irving Alexander leads, with cameraman William Mellinger and community participants from churches clubs shops and schools. Filming runs to Sept 17 and a public showing is planned in Odd Fellows Hall about a week later.

Honored on 35th Anniversary at Winthrop Yacht Club
Mr and Mrs Michael I Grimes celebrated their thirty fifth wedding anniversary at a surprise dinner party arranged by their children. Over 125 guests attended as the couple entered to thunderous applause and a wedding tune played by the orchestra. They were married in Roxbury on September 3 1906 and have lived in Winthrop since.

Winthrop Camera Club Plans October Resume
The Winthrop Camera Club will begin its second year with a regular meeting on the second Thursday of October at the Spanish War Veterans Hall on Jefferson Street. About fifty members, open to new joiners, will hear a graphic contest on vacation and action pictures and view colored moving pictures from the club outing in the Monadnock region last June. A business meeting and committee reports will also be presented. The club welcomes all still and moving picture enthusiasts.

Funeral Services For Laura Larson
Funeral services were held Saturday at White Funeral Home for Laura C. Larson of 29 Plummer Ave. following a 10 day illness. Born in Malden in 1900, she lived in Winthrop 34 years and worked for Employers Liability Assurance in Boston before joining Winthrop Town Hall in 1929 as assistant to Town Clerk Donald McLeod. She is survived by her father Carl E. Larson and brother Pontus E. Larson of Winthrop. interment in Winthrop Cemetery.

Tragic Drowning As Homemade Boat Capsizes Off Fort Heath
Charles McLaughlin 12 and siblings George 10 Theresa 8 drown after their driftwood craft overturns off Fort Heath Winthrop Beach. Police raced to aid from shore but could not reach the overturned craft in heavy seas. The three children had built and launched the boat from Winthrop boulevard after Sunday dinner.

Funeral Services for John J. Kelley in Winthrop
Funeral services for John J. Kelley, longtime Winthrop resident and former Boston wholesale meat executive, were held from his River Road home with a 10 o’clock Mass at St. John the Evangelist. Burial followed at Winthrop Cemetery. Kelley, 67, born in Roxbury, leaves wife Louise C. and two sons Edward and Frank H. and brother Frank H. of Dorchester. he led Cudahy Co. for years and was active in Winthrop Lodge Elks.

New Superintendent Takes Post At First Baptist Church School
The First Baptist Church School, opening its annual program next Sunday, names Julian Davis of 16 Emerson Rd as the new superintendent. He succeeds Wendell A. Hodgkins who follows predecessor Margeson in a 40 year span with two prior leaders. Davis is an experienced church school leader and Northeastern University alumnus, father of two.
