Next Wednesday Thursday and Friday evenings the Annual WIN THROP REVIEW Cooking School will be led by Grace Hallowell a noted New England cooking expert. Lectures start at 8 pm with doors at 7 pm. She will present meals in the modern manner and demonstrate oven top and broiler meals with vegetables and desserts. Free groceries valued prizes will be distributed to attendees with nearly 300 prizes promised.
The meeting adjourned after midnight and the committee's transportation recommendations were not approved. The matter is now in the hands of the selectmen after the committee requested discharge.
A special town meeting in Winthrop defeated the Transportation Committee plan for future service by 134 to 1038. The vote risks loss of public transport due to the Narrow Gauge bankruptcy and would have connected Winthrop to Maverick station via broad gauged tracks and Boston Elevated service for a 15 cent fare. The meeting drew 1200 residents to Winthrop Junior High School amid vocal debate as officials explained the implications of state law on acquiring the Winthrop branch.
