Capt A L Hodgkins of 2 Edgar terrace Winthrop retires at age 70 on December 31 as master of the Gen Robert Anderson. A veteran sea captain, he has long commanded in Boston Harbor and the Boston Navy of the United States Army. He recalls wrecks and near death while describing a January incident near Watch Hill.

The total capacity reached about 5000 for Thanksgiving Day, with crews working evenings to finish. The field remained in good condition as a capacity crowd gathered for the Revere Winthrop classic.
