Taunton High School visits Winthrop for the second annual Thanksgiving football showdown at Fort Banks. Taunton arrives with a ten pound per man advantage, relying on speed and overhead play to upset the home team before an anticipated crowd surpassing seven thousand.
Anew Red Cross drive reports a 100 percent rise in enrolled firms adding Ham's Center Store to the roster. $1203 collected to date signals strong support and promises returns on end-year fundraising efforts.

The Salvation Army annual maintenance appeal begins this week with S J Barry as chairman. Winthrop’s quota is 1000 dollars of the 250000 Greater Boston budget. Funds support trained officers aiding the distressed and unfortunate.
Figures show a slight drop in dwelling permits from January to November 16 this year with almost twice as many permits for single family houses. Private garages cost about $1378 less than the same period last year and the dwelling house loss in 1929 compared to 1928 over this span amounted to $6450. Continued on page 7.
The Governor's Committee on Street and Highway Safety meets Friday at Town Hall with Lloyd A. Blanchard to discuss traffic regulation and safer roads for school children and pedestrians. The discussion covers all phases of traffic control and a state plan to improve road safety.
State Senator Conde J. Brodbine filed a bill to fund a 1200 foot breakwater off Winthrop shore at Highlands End. The plan, to be built by the State Department of Public Works, would be paid from Commonwealth funds. Critics note high costs and prior MDC findings that repairs might be cheaper.

Winthrop received a State Income Tax distribution from Massachusetts this week. The town shows a gain of 14 992 in principal and 2 021 in excess over 1928, totaling about 15 332, with the present benefiting taxpayers through a profitable year.
