At the First Church of Winthrop Methodist a Sunday evening service features Rev. Harry Belmont Hill presenting the second message in the series Seeing God Through Nature with Trees as the theme. Harland O. Pratt shows color slides of trees including sequoia redwood oak palm and juniper. Mrs Hill sings Trees and the choir performs fitting numbers in Assembly Hall.

Funeral Services For Horace A Magee
Funeral services for Horace A. Magee age 70 were held at St. John's Episcopal Church with Rev. Ralph M. Harper officiating. Magee, a former Winthrop School Committee member and retired Aetna Life Insurance executive, died at his home on Johnson Avenue. He served 13 years on the school panel, led Cottage Park Yacht Club as secretary, and held Masons and Knights Templar affiliations. Interment followed at Winthrop Cemetery.

The Garden Club of Winthrop met at Mrs. W W Risk’s Harbor View Avenue home on Monday November 10 with President Mrs. Fred L Davis presiding. Mrs. Davis reported on the State Federation meeting of October 30 at Copley Plaza where Elm was chosen as the State Tree and the Chickadee as the State Bird. Mrs. Elsie West announced the conservation award and Mrs. Bowen spoke on the federation’s traveling canteen program.

Red Cross Roll Call Opens With Parade in Winthrop
A massive Monday night parade launched Winthrop 1941 Red Cross Roll Call aiming for 4500 subscriptions between Armistice Day and November 30. The event drew 50 plus privately owned cars with police escorts and over 30 Surgical Dressing Unit volunteers, followed by a rally in Osborne Hall where chair Arthur E. Boudreau urged reaching the quota.

Charles F Adams 34 of 115 Main street Winthrop died six hours after being struck by a car on Commonwealth avenue Allston as his children ages 10 13 and 14 recover from prior injuries. Police hold Gilbert L Small 29 of 19 Farrington Street Allston on a charge of driving without a license.
