Under the direction of Hugh O. Davis the Winthrop Chapter of the American Red Cross prepares its annual roll call with efforts to complete organization. Continued on page 8.
At the Mass Waterfowl Association meeting Dr H C Kennington of this town spoke on the unfairness to this state of the migration. He urged support for conservation measures and proper management of waterfowl populations.
Supt. T. J. Mahaney asks car owners to avoid all night parking on streets and private ways as winter approaches. Plows work by district and must complete each area before revisiting. Inconvenience and delays in plowing this year prompted the request to keep roads open for emergencies.
Hebrew School in Winthrop will hold graduation exercises Sunday evening November 3 at 7 30 sponsored by Emergency Relief Administration. Chester A Mason and his twenty six piece orchestra of Boston will furnish music. Rev H Leon Masovetsky will preside with Mason directing a government sponsored unit noted in Greater Boston.
Residents of Winthrop gain access to a basal metabolism tester and an operating room sterilizer after funds from last spring’s hospital bridge party, held at the Elk’s ballroom, financed the equipment. Nurses and local women thank supporters for the success of the drive.
The Men’s Bible Class at the First Church of Winthrop will meet Sunday at 9 45 A M with the minister teaching on Nations Are Accountable to God The Nomination Committee George D Burns chairman Watson A McCleery and Dean Baker will present officer names for voting The session attracts strong interest and invites more men to join
The Hon. Leverett Saltonstall, speaker of the House, will speak Friday at 8 p.m. about the Legislature's operations. A number of co guests will attend and the club resumes its activities with an inspiring evening.
A special town meeting will be held in the Junior High gym Monday at 8 p.m. to hear the Shirley Street School report by a five member committee appointed by Moderator Muldoon. The warrant lists three articles including presenting committee reports and considering appropriation related to the Shirley Street School building under the Federal aid plan.
Pleasant Park Yacht Club held its first annual Cup Night with over 200 attendees including members friends and families. The event featured a Halloween party dancing and cup awards presented by regatta committee chair A Landry and others with guests from multiple local yacht clubs and coast guard attendance.
A public hearing in Elks Hall drew over 100 Beach residents to discuss Shirley street school repairs tied to a possible $126,000 project and a PWA funding share. A five member committee will report next Monday and consider immediate action to meet a December 15 deadline.
The Winthrop chapter of the American Red Cross sets the annual roll call from Armistice Day November 11 to Thanksgiving Day.
