Knights Templars Parade Marks 130th Massachusetts Rhode Island Anniv

More than 6000 Knights Templars from 53 commanderies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island with a Winthrop delegation and about 30 bands will march in Providence on Sunday afternoon May 12 to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Grand Commandery of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The body was organized in Providence on May 13, 1805 by Thomas Smith Webb Henry Fowle and Jonathan Gage. Winthrop Commandery No. 53 will join the celebration. Holmes has arranged a private bus from Winthrop Asylum at 10 o clock daylight saving time to Providence for members and their ladies. Visitors from other commanderies are invited. Special trains busses and private cars will bring participants to Providence with excursion trains from Boston Worcester and other points for the public.

Senior High Operetta Impresses Large Audiences With Don Alonsos Treasure

The Senior High School presented Don Alonso's Treasure in Osborne Hall to two full houses on May 1 and 3. Arthur Goodearl led as Don Diego with Marie Duncan as his wife, while Betty Macklin and Olga Langer played the elder daughter Dolores. The production featured graceful dancing, unified singing, and a happy Barcelona set, ending in a cheerful resolution.

Funeral Services For H. W. Roberts

Funeral services for Hugh W. Roberts longtime local contractor and former town official were held at St John s Episcopal Church at 2 00 pm Monday. Attending were many town officials. interment followed at Winthrop Cemetery. Roberts had lived in town for 500 years and was active in civic affairs, serving on the Board of Fire Engineers and the Cemetery Commissioners. he is survived by his wife and daughter Dorothy.

ERA Chorus And Orchestra To Give Winthrop Concert

Administrator Wm H Walsh brings to Winthrop a chorus of over 100 voices directed by Frederick Lamb with a 44 piece orchestra conducted by Albert Kantrich. Audiences endured last winter’s storm to attend the High School concert and again will be rewarded by the ensemble’s stature and performance.

Boston City Council approves pursuing legislation to fund and implement an East Boston rapid transit extension from Maverick Square to Day Square and onward to connect with the Narrow Gauge Railroad. Chairman Atkinson Taken To Hospital For Observation

Leonard C. Atkinson of the Board of Selectmen was removed to Winthrop Community Hospital Monday night for observation and is expected to remain about a week. Cap Atkinson has been confined at home for several weeks with illness as friends wish him a speedy recovery.
