Knights Celebrate Elks Banquet March Seventeen
Lodge of Elks marked a formal banquet with three honored members and guests. Grand Knight John J. Kennedy presided and welcomed Past Grand Knight John B. Halligan who toasted the gathering. State Secretary William C. Prout conveyed congratulations and reviewed the order’s work. Rev. John H. Griffin recalled the Council’s early days since March 17 1896. Past State Deputy James F. Cavanaugh recounted founding moments and presented charter members with acknowledgments.

Winthrop Town Meeting Briefly Adopts Warrants and Budgets
Annual town meeting in the Winthrop Theatre had a sparse balcony audience. The moderator led the session at 8 PM with a motion to dispense reading of the warrant. Funds were allocated with $400 more for the new voting method and expenses.

Highland School Opens for Inspection and Dedication
The Highland school dedication last Friday drew about 700 residents for a program led by the Winthrop Highlands Association. Speakers included Harry B. Wright and Maj. Albert Smith, with gifts from the community such as a baby grand piano and a silk flag. The Winthrop Highlands Orchestra performed as students and staff, led by Principal Miss Alice S. Kerry, marking 15 years in public school service.
