Whitman Barry and Hodgkins elected selectmen in town election marked by intense competition. Whitman and Hodgkins reelected. Barry new member. Barry led over Hodgkins by 97 votes with 2140 to 2043. Overall turnout 4192 of 6645 registered, about 65 percent.
Practically all candidates watched friends monitor results as officials prepared the count. Precinct by precinct totals are presented with a comparison to registration figures, though exact numbers were not yet released.
At a meeting of the newly elected Board of Selectmen held Wednesday evening, Frank E. Whitman was unanimously chosen as chairman. Charles A. Hagman was unanimously appointed as clerk of the Board of Selectmen.
The annual Town Report and the Assessors' Book for the year ending December 31 1927 were delivered to the Town Hall today for distribution. Citizens desiring a copy should apply at the Town Hall.
The Town Hall Committee opened sixteen bids on Thursday evening March 1st in the Selectmen's Room. Bids ranged from 153 744 to 179 185 with contractors including Wm M Bailey C o and White Construction Co among bidders. The committee will review bids and sub contracts before awarding the contract. no decision has been made yet.
The advisory committee will hold a public hearing at 7 30 P M on Friday March 9 at the Junior High School regarding all articles in the Annual Town Meeting Warrant. All interested parties are invited to attend. H Dwight Hall Secretary Advisory Committee.
The Transportation and Civic Committee of the Board of Trade calls on W G Wells for a public hearing before the Department of Public Utilities regarding the Boston Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad plan to discontinue night service between 12:35 am and 4:15 am from Boston to Winthrop. Citizens petition for a hearing, railroad to replace night trains with buses, and conversion to electric operation underway.
The Winthrop Board of Trade holds a regular open meeting Monday evening March 12 at Odd Fellows Hall Pauline street. Officers and directors discussed eligibility and nominated Charles A Williams of Kimball Metal Polish Co for president.
