Pleasant Park Yacht Club to host Zam-Bola event

The Pleasant Park Yacht Club announces its annual Zam-Bola this Friday and Saturday at the clubhouse on Pleasant Street near Main. Commodore George J. Hamilton invites all Winthrop residents to enjoy a weekend of free admission, entertainment, and hospitality from 7:30 p.m. to midnight, with continued activities Saturday into early morning.

License Granted For Point Shirley Hotel

After a Monday meeting with Point Shirley residents James Spanos manager of the Point Shirley Hotel received approval from the Board of Selectmen for an inn-holders license to operate the property at Point Shirley. The hotel formerly the Point Shirley Club is set to open around June 17.

At the Masonic Temple on Winthrop Street Tuesday evening Edward A Holmes of 60 Floyd Street was installed as Commander of Winthrop Commandery Knights Templars. Eminent Sir John E Rines of Haverhill attended the ceremony.

Town Gets $14,000 More for ERA Work

Under the State ERA program Winthrop was granted another $14,000 for June to continue projects already underway. ERA Administrator Wm. H. Walsh released the information after an inspection of Miller's work and related activities.

Winthrop Orders Stray Dogs Shot Over Rabies Fears

Winthrop officials led by Chairman Leon ard C. Atkinson urge dog owners to muzzle or leash pets after rabies reports. Four police officers will round up unrestrained dogs and take them to Town Hall for shooting during a three month period.
