Work of hospital marks 164 months of operation

In the May 12 National Hospital Day notice the Maternity House reflects on 164 months of operation since opening May 12, 1923. It details admissions, hospital days, maternity bed expansion from five to eight, and 146 births to date, plus X Ray department figures and financial progress.

Memorial Day Observed by Winthrop Veterans and Scouts

Memorial Day observances in Winthrop included a long parade led by Civil War veterans and local leaders, a Resthaven Cemetery decoration for 66 graves, and a large turnout of Boy and Girl Scouts. Speakers praised the day with O'Brien delivering a notable oration, while Warren Ellis Corps and Women’s Relief Corps participated in services at Deer Island and Winthrop Cemetery. The event featured more than 250 scouts, civic groups, and veterans, with ceremonies at Mon ument and Sturgis Beach, and the summer playgrounds set to open July 6 with Mel Carver in charge.

Coolidge Dinner at Arms Aflame with notable guests

The Coolidge Dinner at the Arms on May 28 drew 150 attendees arranged by Mrs. Willard N. Hall and Mrs. G. Wallace Tibbetts. Featured at the head table were Edgar F. Power and Mrs. Power, Mrs. Lindsey Patterson and her daughters from North Carolina, M. C. Charles L. Underhill, State Treasurer James Jackson, Mass Coolidge Association leaders G. Wallace Tibbetts and Mrs. Tibbetts, William H. Leavitt, Capt. Clarence J. McKenzie, Rev. John L. Ivey, John M. Webster, Mayor of Somerville, Samuel H. Robie, Chelsea Record editor, and William H. Dolben of Somerville, among others.
