Volunteers Give Blood To Help Harry Vincena

Harry B Vincena of 145 Bartlett Road received a blood transfusion at Massachusetts General Hospital after health declined. His brother Richard G Vincens of 163 Woodside Avenue volunteered, giving almost a quart of blood on July 19. Harry showed improvement and was expected to return home to Winthrop soon, though unable to resume telephone duties yet.

Moonlight Sail and Dance at Pleasant Park Yacht Club

The Pleasant Park Yacht Club offers a moonlight sail around the harbor on Monday evening August 1 weather permitting. Boats load at 7.30 at the clubhouse float for a two hour cruise. On return dancing will be in the ball room with an affordable price.

Cart driver severely injured by truck on Reverest Street

Patrick J. Carroll of 85 Bowdoin Street was seriously injured Monday morning when a heavy truck from Independent Slip Co struck the cart he rode. The cart toppled onto the sidewalk and Carroll was removed to Metcalf Hospital, then sent home in serious condition. The truck was driven by Chas Burrill with Foreman Foster aboard. a Fort Banka soldier assisted until medical staff arrived.

First Heat Prostration Reported This Summer

George Norwood aged 79 of 162 Herman Street a ticket agent was overcome by heat on Tuesday at ingalls Station. He was found on the ticket office floor and given first aid by Dr. Percy G. Brown then moved to his home by Chief William A. McNeill. This is the first heat prostration case of the season in the area.

Boy on bicycle collides with car near Metcalf Hospital

Gilbert Vance of 45 Road st. rode his bicycle last Friday afternoon and collided with Bennison's undertaker's auto, receiving bruises. He was taken to Metcalf Hospital in Ralph Crosby's car. Crosby was driving a lady home from the same hospital when she stopped on a piazza. Chief McNeill was present at the scene.

County Fair to Draw 6000 Cars in Winthrop

Winthrop Lodge of Bike plans the county fair for Saturday August 6 drawing crowds by auto and train. Organizers Curran McDonald Verney and others publicize a monster clam bake from 6 to 7 PM and expect to feed 3000. In a wide campaign residents are urged to display flags and boosters spirit for Winthrop as 35 000 tickets have already sold.

Winthrop Highlands Association Poses Pier Access Plan

The Winthrop Highlands Association directors warn that youths use the front beach pier gratis, and propose extending access only to paying members. Membership costs $5 yearly, with the association owning assets including the front beach pier worth about $7500 and the back beach runway plus four Fort Heath tennis courts. A past well known summer resident is mentioned in reference to earlier membership.
