Police quell jailbreak threat at Corinda Beach clamming clash

Police responded quickly to a Friday disturbance near Thornton Station when about thirty barrels of clams owned by local diggers were threatened. State raids the prior week had seized clams dug by unlicensed outsiders. Out-of-town diggers arrived by three cars seeking revenge, but officers dispersed the group without trouble.

Mardi Gras Ends With Large VFW Crowd and Car Drawing

The third annual Mardi Gras and Carnival of the Richard F Metcalf Post VFW closed Saturday evening with a large crowd. The Chevrolet was awarded at 11:00 p.m. to Joseph F Mariz of 47 Bates Avenue, holder of the winning ticket The Doll and Baby Carriage Parade was held Saturday afternoon at the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Workers Celebrate Breakthrough on East Boston Tunnel

More than two hundred engineers executives and drillers who worked on the East Boston Tunnel celebrated the final partition break through. A special dinner at the Elks Hall followed with broiled lobster fried chicken and salad as a special orchestra provided music. Officials from the contracting company thanked the workers for their diligence and success.

Court Finds Barking Dogs Not a Nuisance

Judge Frank J Donahue of the Suffolk Superior Court ruled that the barking and howling of four dogs owned by Miss Henrietta A S Pike and Gertrude Pike at 184 Woodside avenue did not constitute a nuisance. High White of 188 Woodside Avenue challenged the conclusion, saying the dogs disturbed him at night.

Body of Soldier Found at Beach near Fort Banks

The body of Arthur L. Witham of Somerville was found floating in Crystal Cove Bay near Government Wharf by Donald Aggino. Authorities believe he was beaten and dumped into the water after a confrontation. An investigation is being conducted by local police with Lieut. Col. Paul Bunker directing inquiries and medical examiner William Waters reviewing the scene.
