Hospital Drive Near End Report In A Few Days

Community Hospital Drive in Winthrop near completion with canvassers done. final returns and details to be issued early next week. Fundraiser dance at Legion Hall August 15, sponsored by Earnest Endeavor Club features Jackie Payne’s orchestra and novelty dances to aid the hospital.

Elks Vote $100 Donation to Community Hospital

At Wednesday evening’s meeting the Elks approved contributing 100 dollars to the Community Hospital. The group plans to raise more after the site is purchased and the building opens, with hopes of larger involvement once the organization is established.

Monti Marries Mulloy in Winthrop Wedding

Miss Marion Crandall Mulloy of Madison Ave becomes the bride of Mr. Anthony L. Monti of Sea View Ave at St. John the Baptist on a Wednesday ceremony. Rev. John H. Griffin officiates. Attendants include Miss Florence Leslie Barnabee and Edward F. Dunn. The couple plans a Beacon Villa reception and will reside at 52 Wilshire Street.

Winthrop Man Promoted to Kenmore Post Office Superintendent

Captain Timothy J. Sullivan of 64 Court Road receives a promotion to superintendent of the Kenmore post office, formerly the annex. He served 19 years in the main Boston office paper room and over 25 years in service, is a Spanish War veteran, and served with the 9th Massachusetts U V and as Regimental Ordnance Officer. John A. Brennan of Thornton Street is named as his assistant.

Big Elks Fair Promises Cars and Hope Chest Prize

Winthrop Elks grounds host a big fair next Saturday with music and games for all ages. The event offers two automobiles as prizes and a hope chest donated by Angus P. Macdonald, plus a kiddies free morning exhibit from 9 to 12. An afternoon and evening program costs a quarter, with a long list of committee members guiding the event.

Memorial Tablet Erected for Richard F Metcalf in Winthrop Cemetery

A large granite stone with a bronze tablet was placed on the Metcalf Lot at Winthrop Cemetery. The tablet shows Corp. Richard F. Metcalf in service uniform and honors him as Killed in Action at Chateau-Thierry on July 15, 1918. The inscription notes his birth in Winthrop on April 4, 1898 and his service with the 101st Infantry, 26th Division U S A. Senior Nurse Minnie Stuart Pratt signs the memorial.
