Point Shirley Club Thrives With Record June Business

The Point Shirley Club reports record June activity under new management led by President Clarence J. McKenzie and Manager Otis W. Greeley. The dining rooms are full nightly and the piazza hosts popular radio concerts. Members rise from 200 to 525 as prominent visitors frequent the club.

Winthrop Young Man Honored In National Pageant

Harold F. Lindergreen of Winthrop was chosen for a lead in the pageant The Bond and the Free at the National Episcopal Conference held at Wellesley College. The event drew over 300 attendees and was directed by Rev. Phillips Osgood of St Marks Minneapolis with the pageant moved indoors due to weather.

The Misses Catherine and Marga ret Cusick of the Highlands have arrived safely in Ireland and will spend three months there. They sailed on the Carmania from New York.

Fireworks Highlight Postponed Legion Carnival at Ingleside Park

The Legion Carnival of July 4 resumed last Saturday at Ingleside Park drawing a large crowd estimated at 7500. Highlights included vaudeville boxing a popular band concert led by Al Ives and a major prize giveaway with items such as a Ford Sedan coal gold watch and household goods awarded to Winthrop residents. The fireworks show was the grand finale and the event raised substantial funds for the Legion as booths sold out and patrons supported the tonic stand run by Mrs. Horrigan.

Drive for Hospital Funds Rebooted in Winthrop

A new start will be made for funds for the proposed Winthrop Community Hospital. At a Monday night dinner in St. John's parish house Bowdoin and Buchanan streets the group voted to return about 20 000 already raised and set a new goal of 35 000. Dr B H Metcalf and Frederick Courtenay Barber with Henry I Hazelton will lead a week long campaign beginning next Tuesday after a rally dinner. The drive aims to retain contributor confidence and mobilize five divisions of volunteers urging donations.
