Winthrop Highlands Association hosts a festive event at Cliff House described as ideal for mirth and fun. The piece notes past dances by the association, promising a joyous occasion and highlights branded quality and local merchants in everyday life.
Miss Maude Preston Gardner daughter of Mr and Mrs Preston Hicks Gardner wed Elmer Ellsworth Dawson Jr son of Representative and Mrs Elmer E Dawson of Winthrop at Grace Church Providence The ceremony featured a Duchesse satin gown a Watteau train and orange blossom coronet The wedding party wore aurora crepe gowns and brown hats After the service the couple and guests gathered at the George Street home for a reception They will reside in Pittsfield Massachusetts following a wedding trip Also noted are Rev William J Day’s recent Bible addresses in Rockland Me and sermons by Rev Benjamin P Browne at the Rockland Church.
Seven year old Annie Goldberg was struck by a northbound truck driven by Joseph Goodfader on Shirley Street near Neptune Avenue last Saturday evening and died at Community Hospital. Eyewitness Paul Goldman and vehicle owner Israel Goldberg aided the victim. Goodfader was arrested, bailed, and the case continued in East Boston Court.
Matt B. Westgate of 16 James ay celebrated his 80th birthday last Sunday. Relatives and friends from Providence New Bedford Weymouth Winthrop and Boston attended. Chief Warren Belcher entertained guests by auto around Winthrop. Westgate served 47 years in Boston and Winthrop postal service. Mr and Mrs John Gould and son Raymond of Bartlett ra joined by Mr and Mrs Peter Murphy of Watertown spent part of last week at Falmouth Heights stopping at Tower House.
Early Monday at about 1.15 am Officer Northrup, riding toward Washington Ave on Winthrop St, crashed into a pile of bricks opposite Jefferson while a new building rose nearby. He was rushed to Community Hospital with a severe facial gash and head and stomach pain. Neighbors aided him as witnesses reported the damaged motorcycle and sidecar.
Winthrop Highlands Association hosts a July 19 meet with four 50 yard events for residents only. Separate divisions cover girls and boys under and over 16. entrants must specify class. Mail name and address to Harold M. Evans by July 14. Also note Miss Dorothy Finn of Madison Ave. was hospitalized with appendicitis but stable.
