Monument and Tablet Unveiled at Winthrop Cemetery
A Memorial Monument and tablet honoring deceased Winthrop firefighters was unveiled Sunday June 26 at Winthrop Cemetery. Miss Natalie Belcher pulled the cord, Edward Bagley gave the oration, Rev. Ralph Harper led the closing prayer, and the procession returned to Central Fire Station.

On graduation day the Winthrop schools presented retiring Superintendent Frank A. Douglas with a gold purse totaling 625 and a leather bound book holding the names of about 4000 contributors. The gift included signatures of current students teachers and many alumni. Douglas received the tribute at his home and thanked the community for the gesture.

The circus arrives mid July with three performances on Friday and Saturday July 22 and 23. The Legion boys enter the circus business this year promising thrilling acts by clowns ponies acrobats jugglers and trapeze performers.

Capt Mugford Stone Unveiled In Marblehead Memorial
In a Marblehead ceremony on Monday afternoon June 27 the Deane Winthrop Chapter DA dedicated a granite shaft to Capt James Mugford Jr in the American Revolution memory. The shaft was donated by Marblehead citizens, Mugford and his ship Franklin being rooted in the town.
