Among early uses of the telephone, the Boston Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad issued a December 20 1879 notice stating a telephone line would operate between Winthrop Junction and the Superintendent's House for train dispatching, cited in the Telephone Almanac 1939 by Bell System.

Funeral Services for Robert K Bean
Funeral services for Robert K Bean who died Friday in his 65th year were held Monday afternoon from his home at 336 Shirley Street. Born in Hamilton Bermuda April 3 1874 he moved to Winthrop as a boy and lived there 49 years. He worked for the Winthrop Co operative and the Winthrop Savings Bank for 23 years up to his death. He was quiet but well liked and survived by his wife Blanche Bean.

Larry Foster’s Death Inspires Youth Conference Message
Larry Foster, son of Thomas J. and Mrs. Foster of Ridgewood New Jersey, died tragically after a summer stay at an Arizona ranch while a sophomore at Lafayette College. His camp director Charles R Scott arranged publications of his writings in Larry Thoughts of Youth which sold over a half million copies and influenced youth conferences nationwide.

Hearing On Winthrop Petition At State House
A special town meeting vote authorized seeking legislative approval to fund a subsidy for the Boston Revere Beach and Lynn railroad. The State House hearing, before the Municipal Finance Committee, featured Winthrop officials led by Sidney Blandford and Roy Pigeon with railroad employees backing the petition. only Henry Moynihan opposed. Baraca Philathea Social at First Baptist Church
