Scouting in Winthrop Reaches Fourteen Years Of Growth
Scouting in Winthrop marks its 14th year with a troop formed in 1910 by J Parker Margeson. The first Council organized in 1913 listing officers including Elmer E Dawson and Leslie E Griffin. By 1922 there were three troops and 80 Scouts, rising to 100 with Troop 4. Summer camp ran July 28 to Sept 1 with 46 Scouts, site at Charge Pond praised for sanitation, and chef Tony retained. Seven active troops now total 200 members and Sea Scouts are being organized.

Sidney E. Blandford was reelected Senior Warden for 1924 at a Parish House banquet honoring his 20 years of service to St. John's Episcopal Church in Blandford. Attendees praised his dedication, with remarks from Rev. Harper and others, and officers including Walter P. Simonds and John A. McNaught were reelected.

Albert Fontaine Burned While Soldering Gas Tank
Albert Fontaine suffered severe burns to head neck and hands when a gasoline tank exploded while he soldered it in a Washington avenue garage. His brother Arthur helped extinguish the fire and he was taken to Community Hospital where he remains under treatment.

The report covers January 3 to December 31, 1923. Admissions total 536 with 4927 hospital days and 15 deaths. Per capita cost per patient stands at 5.59. Forty five physicians admitted cases, nearly all Winthrop physicians admitted about 400 cases. Treasurer’s report follows.
