Elmer E. Dawson Dies Prominent Winthrop Citizen
Elmer E. Dawson, Winthrop's leading citizen, died Thursday at Winthrop Community Hospital after long illness. He served two terms in the General Court and held many local posts including chairman of the Advisory Committee, former Board of Selectmen chair, bank president, director at two banks, and active roles in civic groups. He was 75, born in Langsworthy Iowa, and survived by wife Jessie, son Elmer E. Dawson Jr., daughter Margaret, and siblings. Funeral arrangements pending.
