State and Army Asked to Inspect Belle Isle Inlet Bridge
The Board of Spectmen asks the State and Army Engineers to inspect the Belle Isle Inlet Bridge linking Winthrop and East Boston. State DPW inspectors have reviewed Winthrop bridges and will report soon while Channing Howard and Harbor Defenses of Boston engineers assess conditions and propose recommendations. Local State Guard Unit Donates Blood
The Winthrop State Guard visited the Red Cross blood center at 691 Boylston st on Monday evening at 8 30 with officers. Guardsman Norman Weiner, who has given blood five times, arranged the visit in two platoons totaling 60 men across Monday and Wednesday nights.

Prosecution Urged Of Dimout Violations In State
Gen Daniel Needham head of the Massachusetts Committee on Public Safety urged prosecution of dimout violators in a message to air raid wardens and black out officers statewide. Army reports said Governor's Aer Order No. 40 was not enforced in many stores restaurants and similar establishments. Winthrop reports show numerous violations with violators ordered to appear before Blackout Officer Norman J Horrigan for instructions. If noncompliance continues prosecutions will follow. Army officials inspected Winthrop finding violations especially in the Beach area and some waterfront homes may be asked to switch to black shades.
