A Christian Science lecture at First Church of Christ Scientist Winthrop is presented this afternoon under church auspices. Mary Baker Eddy is praised as founder with a clear vision of future needs, and a Board of Lectureship is noted as part of measures to promote and protect the cause.
Miss Marion B. Richardson and M. Ballou led a swift rescue when 6 and 8 year old Donald and Chester Parker fell through Belle Island Creek near Pleasant Park. Ballou swam out, Richardson pulled the rope, and both boys were revived after pul motor treatment at the Richardson home. The party aiding included R. L. Ballou and Patrolman Turner with the Fire Department. The boys recovered with no lasting effects.

Chief William A. Ballou, a Winthrop figure and American Legion member, plunged through ice to reach a drowning boy and then searched under the ice for another. He rescued the younger Parker boy, bringing him to shore unconscious as the police were alerted. Ballou, a former athlete and local employee, escaped serious harm despite his cold.
