Winthrop Chapter Allots Funds Despite Small Deficit

Precincts report strong community effort for the Greatest Mother in the World drive. Total donations approach last year, though memberships fall 84. Four precincts show mixed results with Precinct 1 and Precinct 3 ahead, Precinct 2 behind, while Winthrop retains a sizable local fund and credit to chairmen and townspeople.

Miss Ayres Died December 22 In Winthrop High School Century

The sudden death of Clara Grace Ayres on Wednesday December 22 shocked Winthrop and its school community. A longtime Latin teacher and head of the Latin Department at Winthrop High School she helped hundreds prepare for college and organized the Latin Club. She lived with friend and colleague Miss Eveleth for 30 years and was active in church and civic groups. Funeral details follow on page 3.
