The court does not grant an order sought by A Snead to block or restrict a vote against the Select arrangement. No further action granted and the case remains unresolved.
The Winthrop Rotary Club held its weekly meeting at the Winthrop Arms Hotel on Monday February 26 at 2 15 pm with Vice President presiding. Continued on page 10.
Twelve candidates run for seats on the Winthrop Board of Selectmen as election day approaches next Monday. The town plans to issue bus regulations under the town license with the Rapid Transit Company, subject to Selectmen approval, detailing snow removal routes and schedules. Regulations become effective after the 60 day emergency permit expires March 27, with town oversight continuing.

Since the February storm two weeks ago the town has spent about 15 000 on snow removal with more bills likely awaiting approval. The portion tied to bus operation remains undetermined. The figure probably marks an all time high for the town in such a short period.
A mass meeting at Shirley Street School under the Winthrop Transportation Committee ended with no resolution. Selectmen Ross Batchelder and David Belcher, who granted a permanent Rapid Transit Inc. permit against committee protest, faced heckling and boos. Committee chair Frederick I. Crocker restrained Walter Baker during a tirade against Town Solicitor Fred W. Fisher who had supported a Boston Elevated service plan.
Watchman spots the ferry Ashburnham settled hard at its East Boston berth as ice and heavy snow crush the hull. Water entered through ice-damaged seams, eight feet in hold, risking deck flooding. Tugs Neptune and Pillsbury used pumps. crews cleared snow. Repairs at marine railway likely.
Twelve candidates compete for three Board of Selectmen seats in the annual town election. Eleven names appear on the ballot while one runs as a sticker candidate. Other contests include Park Commissioner Board of Health Library trustees and town treasurer.
