The local committee marks its first Tercentenary event on Wednesday evening March 4 as part of the Bay Colony Charter anniversary statewide celebrations. Superintendent of Schools Clarke will introduce the program and election of officers begins the slate.
The local schools have arranged activities for the 1930 Tercentenary. Prof. Arthur L. Brown of Boston University Law School will address pupils and teachers at the High School. In the evening the Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association will elect officers with a banquet at the Winthrop Arms, under Alfred J. Pilling. General Chairman Pesuk K Harrold has secured John Jackson Walsh as speaker for the evening. The public is invited to attend at the Arms.
Chairman Henry J. Barry of the Board of Selectmen speaks at a Boston Chamber banquet hosted by Mayor James M. Curley. The event, attended by over 300 Boston businessmen, focused on commercial development for the District of Boston.
Ralph Cunningham a 15 year old Winthrop High School student living at 168 River road rescued a neighbor s collie from Lewis Lake on Wednesday afternoon The dog cried for help as Cunningham broke ice with his canoe and paddled to reach the animal in distress
The third annual Zambola fundraiser for the Church of St. John the Evangelist will open Friday at 7 pm at the Elks. Chairman Lill and a large committee praise public patronage as booths are decorated and volunteers ready to help. Refreshments, wrap checks, and auto parking will be provided. La Belle Rosa performs and this marks her final public appearance, followed by the Sunday School Ensemble’s numbers and an 11 pm end in the Elks Auditorium.
Senator Conde Brodbine of Revere urged a merit based auto insurance bill before the Legislative Committee on Insurance. He argued accidents should raise rates while spotless records reduce costs and warned the zone plan could face U S Supreme Court scrutiny. Representative Carroll supported the stance. Frank Porter of 44 Birch Road is visiting Framingham.
