At Mayor James M. Carley's suggestion the Massachusetts Society Sons of the American Revolution will unveil and dedicate a tablet on March 17 1930 as part of Boston's Tercentenary observances.
Representatives of 25 Winthrop organizations attended a special meeting of the Parade and Pageant Committee of the 1930 Tercentenary Committee held Tuesday evening to plan Old Home Week parade events and activities.
Two Winthrop residents, Mrs. Catherine Gawain of 953 Shirley Street and Mrs. Mary E. Kelly of 86 Johnson Avenue, are among the Massachusetts group selected for the spiritual pilgrimage.
The board voted to cooperate with a local committee for the 1930 Tercentenary program. Officers urged support for President Swett during his term and after, and Mr Hatfield received a cooperative vote. Five members were authorized to work on the board’s participation in the Tercentenary plans. John Henry offered a truck for a parade float on August 2.
The Republican League backed by leaders Saltonstall Warner and Clark urged support for a full slate in the town election on March 3. Endorsed officials include Selectmen candidate Preston Wallace Tibbetts and Town Clerk Bessie L. Dodge, among others, with discussions on harmony and businesslike town management.
Georgia E. Ostman aged 3 and John F. Ostman aged 18 months, children of Mr and Mrs George H Ostman of 53 Fremont Street Winthrop died within minutes of each other from lobar pneumonia. Both were stricken at the same time two weeks earlier and did not recover. They were buried from their grandmother's home at 101 Bowdoin Street Winthrop Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
A large crowd gathered Sunday at the Point Shirley Yacht Club to back a movement for a public playground and ball field for precinct 3 children despite bad weather. Commodore Murray opened the gathering and introduced Harold R. Winter who described the proposed project.
Winthrop kicks off its 1930 Tercentenary activities with March 4 observances marking the Bay Colony Charter anniversary. Schools hold exercises under Edward R. Clarke. a banquet at Winthrop Arms closes the day with Alfred J. Pilling directing the association program and John Jackson Walsh as featured speaker.
