Public notices set for Monday February 27 as the Planning Board’s revised zoning by law recommendations face possible adoption. Hearings revealed opposition to changes while board tweaks aim to preserve original intent, including modifications to General Residence District provisions and limits on dwelling types and uses.
The United Spanish War Veterans of Winthrop marked the Maine Memorial Boulder anniversary in Havana Harbor with talks by John E. Beck and musical selections by Maude Murray and the Junior High Band. Richard Connolly of 382 Revere Street survived a perilous night when he and five crew members from the wrecked Navy tug Mohave reached shore in a leaky dinghy during surf off Point Allerton. Hull police officer Hyman Bergin witnessed the escape as the dinghy bucked against breakers and dumped the men onto the beach. The crew reported that rubber boots helped bail the leaking craft after nearly an hour at sea.
