Quiet town election looming as March fifth nears
Two weeks remain before the March fifth town election with filing closing February twenty third at 5 PM. Four candidates for selectman are listed and a constable contest is rumored though few seek town office. Winthrop attendees traveled to the State House for hearings on power and light charges, the firemen's two platoon plan, and Mayor Curley's county budget bill, with strong opposition from Town Counsel Guptill unless representation is granted.

Pre Lent Festivities at St John Parish Reunion
The annual St John the Ingelist Parish reunion drew large crowds last Monday night in Winthrop. Upper hall filled to capacity with young folks. lower hall hosted about 80 whist tables directed by Timothy J. Sullivan Daniel J. Homan and Miss Murray. Proceeds fund the upper church completion near Easter.

Winthrop Yacht Club Ball Delights Members In February Toast
Last Saturday night the Winthrop Yacht Club held its annual ball with about 400 friends braving the cold to attend at the club house. Ex-Commodore Dave Wiseley chaired the event and oversaw nautical flair in a well decorated room with yacht pennants and flags. The evening featured hospitality from Mr. and Mrs. Halford and many other members as various yacht club representations were entertained.

Firemen and Ladies Hold Costume Party
The Ladies' Auxiliary to the fire department hosted a costume party Monday evening at Legion hall. About 200 attended, most in disguise, with prizes judged by Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Carsley, Eldredge Belcher, and Frank Cochran. Mrs. Belle Tewksbury, age 73, won the big prize.
