Public hearing on Shirley Gut dredging for House Bill 220

The Department of Public Works reports on widening and deepening Shirley Gut with two costed options. A hearing February 7 featured remarks by Honan Atkinson Pigeon Ham Wisely and Farren. Winthrop Ball At Copley Plaza Draws Large Crowd

Well over one hundred fifty Winthrop residents attended the Town of Winthrop ball in the Sheraton Room of the Copley Plaza Wednesday evening. The colorful social event featured Myer Davis and his Le Paradis Orchestra providing music as attendees enjoyed the elegant setting.

Lively Hearing on Suffolk County Coals Bill

A public hearing before the joint committee on rules addressed Mayor Mansfield’s plan requiring Chelsea Revere and Winthrop to share Suffolk County expenses or form their own county. A weekly WMEX program at 7 46 p m features a trio of Elizabeth Allen harp Ruth Abbott violin and Blanch Hayes piano with soprano Miss Caint accompanied by the trio plus Miss Flint solo numbers. Funeral Services for Jas H Crowley in East Boston

Funeral services for James H Crowley ant supervisor of physical education in the Boston public schools were held Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Church of St John the Evangelist. The edifice housed Boston school officials and local leaders with pallbearers from the old East Boston basketball team. Interment followed at Winthrop Cemetery with attendees including Supt Patrick Campbell and other city officials.

Secures Low Rates on Local Loans

Town Treasurer Harry W. Aiken placed a $50,000 loan for Winthrop due November 22, 1935 at a rate of 0.32 percent per year plus $4,000 premium dated February 11, 1935. A second $50,000 loan due the same date was placed January 14 at 4.2 percent per year.
