Selectman John P Clancy will not seek re election to the town board at the March 2 annual town election. He was elected last fall to the state House of Representatives and says state duties will keep him from running again. He left Winthrop for Arizona for a rest before returning home.

Orient Gardens Theatre Damaged in Three Alarm Fire
A three alarm fire in the Orient Gardens Block Orient Heights delayed thousands of commuters from East Boston and Winthrop as the Boston Elevated suspended traffic for over an hour. The Orient Gardens Theatre managed by Nathan Kamber sustained major interior damage with destroyed seats stage and walls stripped of paint. Fire crews halted high tension power in the rear feed line to fight the blaze.

Chairman Tibbetts Believes Town Meeting Should Decide Expenditures
Frederic A. Allen a longtime resident and father of Mrs Edith A Johnson died at his home February 12 after a brief illness. Born in London August 14 1848 he worked in the newspaper business in Boston for 57 years with the Boston Transcript and later the Boston Herald. He lived in town fifteen years before moving to 36 Hancock Street Boston in 1918. A Park Street Church member since 1877 he served as head usher clerk Sunday school superintendent and was an Honorary Deacon. A golden wedding anniversary was held for him and Mrs Allen ten years ago and they celebrated their sixtieth anniversary last October. Page 6 continued.
