Town to Hear Petition for Winthrop Boston Bus Franchise
The Board of Selectmen will meet tonight to endorse or deny a petition from out of town applicants seeking a franchise to operate a bus line from Winthrop to Boston. Selectman Roy W. Pigeon opposes granting the franchise to protect home industry and the town’s Narrow Gauge railroad system.

Star Boat Sailors to Meet at Tech

Wooden Box Drain Project Complete
Under the direction of Sewers Superintendent John Kennedy about 200 feet of wooden box drain will be completed Saturday at Simon J. Donovan's beach Pleasant Street opposite Brookfield Road. The WPA project employs about 14 men at a town cost of 350 dollars for materials with labor paid by the government. The drain, which links to the Ingleside Park concrete drain under Pleasant Street, extends 200 feet to the channel and improves safety for bathers by filling a deep channel that posed danger at high tide.

Speeding Autoist Injures Officer on Main Street
Patrolman Michael J. Whalen was seriously injured early Wednesday after a speeding car struck him while he attempted to halt the vehicle on Main Street. The driver fled the scene. police traced the plate and a Fort Banks soldier was taken to East Boston Court as the alleged hit-and-run driver. Whalen was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries.
