Public Hearing On Breakwater Postponed To Feb 21

A public hearing on Senate 123 and House 36 for a Breakwater off Winthrop Shore Drive was postponed from this week to next Wednesday morning at the State House after the committee noted the bills should have been reviewed by Metropolitan Affairs. Sponsors Senator Brodbine and Representative Clancy urged strong local turnout to back the shore protection project.

Old Timers Night at Winthrop Elks marks 500th meeting

Winthrop Elks lodge celebrated its 500th meeting of the lodge since the charter 26 years ago. Past Exalted Rulers chaired the event with Frederick H. Clark as chairman and Lewis G. H. Tucker as secretary. About 29 charter members attended along with former members now living elsewhere.

161 Men Work Following Storm In Winthrop

A list of 161 Winthrop men hired to remove snow after last Thursday's storm was posted by Superintendent T. J. Mahaney. He said crews with 11 trucks and town tractor cleared main highways first for emergencies, then side streets, noting parked cars hinder plowing. One taxi collided with a plow causing blade damage. Total labor cost reached 1444.95 dollars with 400 dollars for truck hire.

Tech Musical Clubs to Perform at Odd Fellows Hall

Monster Show Planned for Winthrop Theatre Benefit

Chairman Charles R Bennison announces under way a grand benefit performance for the Winthrop Unemployment Relief Fund to be held at the Winthrop Theatre on Thursday evening February 25.
