A largely attended meeting of the Non-Partisan League voted unanimously to go on record in support of the Winthrop Civic Association aims and efforts to bring about an election to town office. The group endorsed the best qualified men for the positions.
The Republican League publicizes its official endorsement slate for town election next month naming Atkinson Fisher and Pigeon for selectmen. Announcement appears this week with full list released for voters.
At a Monday night meeting the Winthrop Civic Association unanimously voted to obtain a permit for its activities in the forthcoming election. The association will move its headquarters to 184 Jefferson Street and hold all future meetings there.
Winthrop's new police chief urges four additional patrolmen and funds for a motorcycle, a new car, and a teletype machine. He cites Needham's eventual purchase after initial rejection following a bank robbery. The prior town meeting last spring debated the extra manpower.
