Firemen to Hold Fifth Grand Ball at Winthrop Casino
The Winthrop Firemen's Relief Association votes to stage its fifth grand ball at the Winthrop Casino on Friday evening February 21. Proceeds replenish the relief fund for sick or injured firefighters. Last year benefits paid totaled $798. Officers include Captain Samuel A. Brown president and Lieutenant John A. McNichol treasurer, with several other trustees listed.

Campbell Named Headmaster of Boston Latin School
Patrick T. Campbell of 30 Sargent Street Winthrop has been chosen headmaster of Boston Latin School succeeding a year of leave. A Harvard 1893 graduate, he trained as history head and led athletics with director duties for school teams. He is about 45, with a wife and two children Edith and Thomas. A Veterans committee planned a Feb. 15 ceremony marking the Maine destruction anniversary.

Winthrop Historical Society Enjoys Evening Meeting
The Winthrop Historical Society held its regular monthly meeting at the Deane Winthrop House last Tuesday evening. A chicken supper served under Miss Anna Newton’s direction delighted about 100 guests. Curator Channing Howard spoke on Stage Coaching and Early Railroading in Winthrop with reminiscences. Attendees included Melville O. Adams and Supt Fenno of the Boston Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad who offered remarks.
