Preston B. Churchill and Gordon G. Fullerton, chairmen of the Board of Selectmen, announce their intent to run again after pressure from supporters. They credit the unemployment committee with solid results and stress tax faced expenditure control. John J. Murray Charles Bumps and William Wheeler also announce candidacy as the Republican League contemplates its choice.

More than fifty members from as many groups met at the Winthrop Arms to organize a grand benefit performance at Winthrop Theatre on Thursday February 25 at 8 pm. Chas R Bennison chaired meetings with Preston B Churchill and the local Unemployment Committee outlining progress. Six vaudeville acts from Boston theatres along with Strachan's Orchestra and a John Henry act are booked plus a feature film and news reel. Admission is one dollar with proceeds aiding the Unemployment Relief Fund.

At a Monday evening meeting of the Board of Selectmen, former Selectman and chairman H J Barry was named Town Counsel. The session discussed local governance matters as Barry assumed the new legal role for the town.
William H Gardner of Willow Avenue was released to his home Saturday after more than a month as a patient at St Elizabeth Hospital Boston following an operation.
The Tenth Annual Hospital Ball takes place Friday evening at the Elks Ballroom with Harvard Gold Coast Orchestra. Mrs. S W Crowell leads as general chair, aided by a reception committee and hospitality team. tickets managed by Mrs. Radell and Mrs. Haigh with several ushers. Proceeds benefit a worthy cause and features include door prize and elimination dances for Seniors and Juniors.
Winthrop Post 146 American Legion hosts a Washington's Birthday concert by the Combined Musical Clubs of Technology at Odd Fellows Hall on February 22 at eight. The 120 member ensemble is a proven drawing card and this marks their first appearance in Winthrop.
Citizens at a Town Hall hearing voiced broad support for a Breakwater project off Winthrop Shore Drive. Two legislative proposals seek 2500 feet of breakwater or heightening the sea wall at a cost up to 250000 with state and municipal funding. A separate public inspection of Winthrop's new Community Hospital is planned before its March opening.
A 12:30 am fire at Billy's Restaurant 52 Putnam Street near the Winthrop Theatre raged for an hour. The eatery part of the theatre building was gutted. the Winthrop Review office also suffered smoke and water damage and was moved to 16 Bartlett Road. The theatre sustained smoke damage but was saved by rapid firefighting.
