The Board of Registrars announces voter registration and list corrections on February 9 11 18 from 730 to 9 pm at Town Hall. Last day to register is February 23 10 pm. Four elections this year include Town Election March 6 and primaries and general elections in 1944.
Water Commissioner John J Murray, after three years in office, announced his candidacy for re election at the March town election. He previously served two terms as Selectman and has dedicated his time to maintaining the water department’s efficiency.
All candidates for office in the coming town election are invited to speak at the Young Women's Republican Club meeting in Winthrop. The five minute addresses will be given Tuesday evening February 8, 1944, between 8:30 and 9:30 p m at Mrs Pauline Cook's home 20 Dixst. Those wishing to speak should notify program chair Grace Gibby by phone in advance. The business meeting starts at 8:00 p m. Members should attend and bring guests.
The Winthrop Nurse's Aide Corps announces a new class beginning Monday February 14 with the final session for the current group. Red Cross volunteers are urged to apply at 21 Winthrop Street by February 10, to support staffing at Winthrop Community Hospital and Fort Banks Hospital.
Miss Alice V Lafayette daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph L Lafayette married Richard T Parks son of Mrs Clara Parks and the late Edwin Parks at St John the Evangelist Church on Sunday January 30 at 3 o clock Rev John T Sullivan officiated Right Rev Richard J Quinlan presided The bride wore ivory satin with venetian lace and a tulle veil The bouquet featured gardenias with an orchid center Maid of honor Miss Margaret Quinn of Waltham wore peach satin with aqua tulle and violets The bridesmaids were Misses Carol Elms and Mildred Barussaldi The flower girl was Patty Staley The best man was Edwin Parks and ushers included Jack K Parks Basil Robinson and Dr Edwin L Bishop A reception followed at the bride’s home The couple will reside in Lynbrook NY

Winthrop Hospital Aid gathers funds with the 22d Linen Ball on February 11 at the Cottage Park Yacht Club. Art Rubins orchestra to play. ticket price listed as $125. The Linen Ball supports hospital linen needs and new 28 bed wing projects, with sewing sessions and devoted members helping with garments and equipment.
At Winthrop Community Hospital annual meeting Leslie E Griffin was re elected president. Officers re elected include Fred eric J. Muldoon Walter P Simonds and Preston B Churchill with clerk Winfield Kendrick Jr. Trustees elected span three to one year terms. A large crowd attended the public opening of the hospital’s new wing with work expected to finish this week.
Richard T. McQuillan 1st Class Petty Officer USNR visited his home at 63 Lowell Road. He served ten months in the Aleutian Islands aboard a destroyer. His engagement to Ensign Elizabeth J. May USNR nurse is announced. she is stationed at Norfolk Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. Diclé has reported back to the West Coast for further sea duty.
Dr. Harry H. Sandler of 178 Washington Ave announces that on Tuesday and Friday the hours 8 AM to 5 PM will be reserved for children's dentistry and orthodontia exclusively.
Walter Smith announces Winthrop’s Fourth War Bond Drive quota of 470000 dollars with a Bond Auction at Elks Hall on February 9 1944. Celebrities Marine Band from the navy and wounded veterans will attend to boost participation and funds for bonds and equipment. Buy bonds in Winthrop and support the invasion drive.
The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Winthrop announces a new free public Reading Room at 71 Jefferson Street near the Winthrop Theatre. Open weekdays 12 noon to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays 7 to 9 p.m., the room offers reading and study with Christian Science literature for sale or borrow.
Work on the Main Street bridge reached the halfway mark as the new section opened to traffic. Despite cold weather the contractor finished the first half quickly and immediately started on the remaining side. Traffic rails have been added to improve safety in icy conditions.
