The town announces a special town meeting on Monday February 27 at 8 00 PM in the Junior High School Hall to discuss amendments to the new zoning laws. The Planning Board zoning expert and Selectmen have held meetings after two public hearings to review objections and propose changes prior to the annual town meeting.
A large Zambola will be held at St John’s Hall Lincoln street on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings February 17 and 18 replacing the church reunion. Vaudeville acts and entertainment are promised. Committee includes John W. Lill as chair and Mrs Madeline Corcoran as secretary with several other members listed.
The Winthrop Catholic Woman's Club held its Silver Tea at St John’s Hall on Sunday afternoon January 29. President Mrs Edith M Christopher wore grey georgette with shoulder flower and greeted guests. The program featured The Schubert Trio Emily Mackenzie and others, with readings by Miss Jean Durfee and a one act play Columbine.
Selectman Frank E. Whitman of 44 Prospect avenue Selectman Joseph E. Hodgkins of 55 Sea View avenue and Water Commissioner Fred W. Fisher of 55 Bellevue avenue filed nomination papers with the Town Clerk this week for the office of selectmen. The papers contain 300 or more signatures, well over the legal requirement.
Two special town meetings will be held this month in Halton at the Junior High School on dates shown. The meetings address matters important to every citizen and the town. Citizens are urged to attend.
A Massachusetts bill proposing a five member selectmen board for Wittthrop was sent back to petitioners after committee discussion. The text questioned whether General Laws authorize local option on number of selectmen by town vote. Unclear if the measure will appear at the annual Town Meeting on June 19 through warrant article. The bill would set five selectmen elected from four precincts plus one at large.
The Board of Selectmen formed a town traffic committee to study conditions and propose recommendations. At Town Hall, Frank W. Tucker was named chairman and Winfield S. Kendrick Jr. secretary. Other members include Wildt, Mele H. Chiat, Warren Belcher, Paul Howard, George Leet, and John W. Fielding. Results of the inquiry will take several weeks.
Mr. G. Wallace Tibbetts, a well known town citizen, was elected Vice-President of the Republican Club of husetts. He plans to run as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Kansas City, amid talk of support for Fuller for President and Andrew’s backing.

Members Wasilevsky Goncheroff Antonoff Bataeff impressed with native Russian songs in costume. They added old American tunes, then pianist Kayaloff finished with spirited selections.
